how to adjust carburator on harley davidson sportster to be leaner?

My 2003 HD sportster is running "rich" and i've been told it needs to be leaned out...... how do i adjust the setting?

There is no mixture adjustment. You need to change the intermediate jet size. Remove the float bowl and look underneath the carb. The jet can be removed with a small screwdriver. Try a size or two leaner. You'll need to use the trial and error method. When you have the mixture right your plugs should be a nice tan color. Black= rich white= lean.
